I talked last week about not finding new customers. The point being taking AWESOME care of those you have now! I’m in several #voiceactor social media groups and here’s the top four things I see challenging new VOs:
Webinars are a way of life for many of us. Like many things in life, some are amazing, some, not so much.
For most of my adult life I’ve been in training & development and emcee’d or presented hundreds of seminars.
A recent experience with a client that had never done a #webinar/#virtualmeeting, put the entire development in my hands. From planning, to script writing, to- well every single element. It made me realize that there are others that may not be well prepared to host a meeting like this, so here we go.
I’ll be looking to cover every element of a great webinar from the first idea to the “day of”. I’d love comments and questions you might have!
Thank you to Anthony Pica for the reminder this morning to focus on where I need to be marketing. A broad, unfocused approach wasn’t working! Here’s to the new approach! As the famous meme says, “Move! You aren’t a tree!”
Building Sound Panels- I’ve seen sound panels built various ways in other videos. These are used in booths to help mitigate sound bouncing around. I used 1×2 furring strips, Rockwool Insulation (Home Depot), and landscaping fabric (6′ wide x whatever length you need) staples, nails, wood glue). Instructions in the video!
EPIC Movie Trailer Voices are fun!! In this episode of “Grant’s Sound Advice” I embedded a recent body of work that included regular #voiceover and #epicmovietrailervoice. What fun! This company does some really fun kid stuff!!
What about us? We’re a pretty cool group of people! There are bad social media groups and there are some really good ones! When deciding to join, go ahead and join or stalk and see how they talk to one another. If you find a bunch of elitist snobs bullying others, leave now!! There are several wonderful groups that all support one another!
How often has the first sentence lead immediately to the second for us? I think our brains are hard-wired to “do the safe thing”. Continue to do what we “know” as opposed to learning new skills and challenging our own thoughts and beliefs. I’ve actually done a LOT of this over the last year.
One thing I committed myself (hmmm…) to doing this was concentrating on posting to three social media platforms: #LinkedIn, #Facebook and #Instagram every single day. And since April of 2021ish, I’ve done that. Mostly with #videocontent. Why? I’m a #voiceactor as well as #spokesperson (for hire). I thought, man, if people see me on-screen and hear my voice, I’ll get more work!
Likely a smart strategy.
Except I did it wrong.
Today I stand (actually sitting, but…) before you a changed man. I Quit.
Well, I quit doing it the wrong way. I hope. I sat in on a webinar with #LinkedIn specialist @Richard Bliss opened my eyes to several indisputable things. 1) JUST posting to social media can be a HUGE time waster if we’re doing it wrong! The platforms have ONE goal: Keep you and others using THEIR platform. 2) Posting the wrong way can be worse than not posting! (Re-read #1). 3) I need to figure out a) How to do it right, or b) find an affordable way to have it done for me.
We all want our business to grow. So today I’ve promised myself to restart and figure out how to do it well and correctly! I want my #voiceover business to grow, but more, I’m tired of wasting resources and time to no traction.
Hard to believe I’ve done 30 episodes on general business advise, but specifically “Getting Started in Voice Over”. I hope the series is valuable to those thinking of this as a side job, or career! Today is about dealing with customers in general, but also on some of the digital platforms.
What is tagging? You need a script read, but *usually at the end* you need a variable “tag” that is specific to a location, or date, or other item that is only part of the script. Listen in!
